The Fine Print
Just returned from the San Francisco Symphony's open rehearsal, where I witnessed something surprising: Roberto Abbado conducting the Chopin F-Minor Concerto from one of those little yellow Eulenburg miniature study scores. As I creep into presbyopic middle age, I find myself increasingly unable to use those things even for study. And he's got it on the podium? What an ophtho-stud.

I can, and do, relate, having recently experienced a nose-dive in the acuity of my already-dreadful eyes.
